Police report Middle Beach woman for alleged near miss on Sturt Highway

A driver has had her car impounded and will face court after a video showed her allegedly almost colliding with oncoming traffic going 110km/h.

A driver will appear in court and has lost her car after allegedly nearly causing a head-on collision when she tried to overtake a truck.

Earlier this month, The Advertiser published dashcam footage taken by South Australian man Jay Quinn, showing him swerve to avoid an oncoming car at 110km/h on the Sturt Highway.

Timestamped just after 7am on Tuesday, January 7, Mr Quinn was travelling east to Annandale from Truro when a silver Ford station wagon heading opposite attempted to overtake a 16-wheeler.

In the footage, the oncoming car is halfway alongside the truck’s body when Mr Quinn can be seen swerving into the road shoulder to avoid crashing head-on.

On Thursday, an SA Police spokeswoman said a 54-year-old Middle Beach woman had been reported for driving in a manner dangerous in relation to the incident.

She added that “the quick actions of the truck driver [Mr Quinn] inevitably prevented a fatal or serious injury crash from occurring”.

Her car was impounded for 28 days and she has been summonsed to appear in court at an unspecified date.
