A driver who allegedly fled the scene of a hit-run that left a cyclist with serious injuries is going nowhere – he’s been arrested, and hasn’t asked a court for bail.

Hit and run crash at Kilburn

A man involved in an alleged hit-and-run at Kilburn that injured a female cyclist will spend the next 14 weeks in custody while prosecutors assess their case against him.

Travis Wayne Turner, 45, of Somerton Park, faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, hours after his arrest by SA Police.

He has yet to plead to charges of aggravated driving without due care, driving while disqualified, failing to exchange details and failing to stop after a collision.

The charges arise from an incident at about 7.25am on February 7, when emergency services were called to Churchill Rd after reports a cyclist had been hit by a van.

Police allege a cyclist, 44, of Mile End, was travelling north in the bike lane on Churchill Rd when she was hit from behind by a white van and thrown from her bike into a street sign.

Police allege Mr Turner was the van’s driver, and that he stopped and approached the woman before getting back in to his van and leaving the scene without assisting her.

The woman was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

On Monday, Mr Turner did not apply for bail.

He was remanded in custody to face court again in May, when prosecutors will finalise the charges against him.
