A shark has been spotted swimming ten metres off the rocks near The Granites at Streaky Bay where a surfer was killed by a great white earlier this month.
The community Facebook page Shark Watch SA said a member of the public reported an unknown species visible “very close to the rocks” between 10.45am and 11.15am on Saturday morning.
The shark was “swimming around in large circles along a 50m radial stretch of the rocks”, according to the page.
On Thursday, January 2, 28-year-old surfer Lance Appleby was attacked in the waters near the popular Eyre Peninsula beach.
Despite a three-day search, the Port Lincoln-born man’s body was never found.
Meanwhile, another shark was sighted in the waters off the western Eyre Peninsula on Friday.
Drone footage taken by Queensland man Dave Boulton on Friday showed it lingering around the coastal rocks at Point Drummond.
It can be seen swimming on its own at a leisurely pace parallel to the shoreline, while two four-wheel drives were parked on the beach a couple of hundred metres away.
Roughly one hour north of Port Lincoln, Point Drummond has several campgrounds and is a popular swimming and snorkelling spot, according to travel websites.
A five-metre great white was also spotted at Henley Beach earlier in the day.
A patrol plane sounded the alarm at about 3.15pm and dozens of people were evacuated from the water.
