It looks like a classic pink-sprinkled donut that might’ve come straight out of your favourite Simpsons cartoon.
But take a bite, and you’ll quickly realise something strange is going on.
CJ’s Bakery on Beach Rd in Christies Beach has stunned sweet-tooths and food critics alike with its newest creation – The Homer Donut – which is far from your typical sugary treat.
Behind the playful icing lies a daring mash-up of savoury favourites: mustard, pickles, a burger patty with melted cheese, crispy bacon and a dollop of tomato sauce.
Yes, really.
And the bold combination just took first place at the Baking Association of Australia’s 2025 National Donut Competition in the Savoury Creation category.
“The judges were surprised but loved it!” the bakery posted on Facebook.
The wacky winner is the work of “Baker Bec”, whose flair for the unusual is already drawing attention ahead of its official launch in store from Tuesday.
“If you love something a little different, sweet & savoury, then you’ve got to try this out!” the post reads.
While the unusual mix might have diehard dessert fans scratching their heads, CJ’s has built a loyal following by pushing boundaries – and this latest offering is already generating buzz from curious customers eager for a taste.
Whether it becomes the next cult food item remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure: this is no ordinary donut.
