A Strathalbyn man has appeared in court for the first time after he allegedly drove at a group of teenagers – breaking a 15-year-old boy’s bones.
On Wednesday, Brenton Kevin Lienert, 54, appeared before Magistrate Kylie Schulz in Mount Barker Magistrates Court, charged with endangering life and driving in a reckless or dangerous manner over the December 2, 2023, incident.
According to 9News reports at the time, police will allege that around 8.30am, Mr Lienert mounted a kerb in his Holden SUV off Bosisto Lane, Strathalbyn, and drove down a reserve walkway towards a group of teenagers.
It is understood most of the teenagers got out of the way but the 15-year-old boy was hit and rushed to the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
He suffered a broken leg, a bone fragment was dislodged in his foot and had a cast on his wrist.
According to reports, the incident allegedly happened after one of the boys drew in the dust on the man’s car.
Emergency services were called to the scene and police officers located the suspected SUV and arrested Mr Lienert a short time later.
Mr Lienert was remanded on continuing bail to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in May.
