A teenager charged over the hit-and-run death of a 20-year-old woman out the front of a Hillcrest petrol station has faced court for the first time.

He has yet to plead to one count each of causing death by dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident after causing death.

SA Police have alleged Mr Friend was driving a 2007 Subaru Liberty on North East Rd, at Hillcrest when he hit and killed 20-year-old Greenacres woman, Samia Malik out the front of a petrol station and the Windsor Hotel on May 6.

CCTV footage from the scene allegedly showed Ms Malik sitting on the road at its intersection with Forbes St in the moments before the fatal crash.

Police allege a silver sedan failed to stop at the scene but was later identified, leading to Mr Friend’s arrest on May 14.

Just two days after Ms Malik was killed, her brother, Zaheer Malik, started a GoFundMe to raise money and bring her body back to Pakistan.

“Our family is in pieces; there are no words for this kind of grief,” Zaheer Malik said in May.

“Every second without her feels like the world has stopped.”

In court on Wednesday, counsel for Mr Friend asked the case be adjourned until mid-August, saying negotiations with prosecutors would take place prior to that hearing.

Prosecutors asked Mr Friend enter his pleas to the charges in February, conceding that was a “longer than normal” request.

They said further evidence and a major crash report was the reason for the seven-month gap between Mr Friend’s court dates.

Mr Friend was remanded on continuing bail to face court next month.
