A woman killed in a hit-and-run crash has been identified as a beloved international student.
Samia Malik, 20, was struck by a car on the middle of North East Rd on Tuesday, at 11pm.
Police said the driver of the car, a silver sedan, didn’t stop at the scene.
Her heartbroken brother has set up a GoFundMe to raise money to bring her body back to Pakistan, where their family is.
“Our family is in pieces; there are no words for this kind of grief,” Zaheer Malik said.
“Every second without her feels like the world has stopped.”
At only 20 years old, Samia, an international student, came to Australia “with dreams, with courage”, he said.
“Studying hard, paying her own way through university.
“She was only 20. She had her whole life ahead of her.”
Mr Malik also outlined the family’s pain that the driver failed to break or stop.
“She died alone in a foreign country, far from her family, far from home.
“Nothing to protect her, no help in death, just like there was no one to help her in her final moments.
“CPR couldn’t save her.”
The crash occurred on the northeast bound carriageway of North East Rd, near Forbes St, near the service station.
CCTV from the scene shows the victim with dark hair and wearing dark clothes walking into the middle of North East Rd at 10.56pm.
She knelt down between the Windsor Hotel and the Hillcrest OTR.
For about three minutes, the woman was seated in the road, standing for a brief moment, before once again sitting back down mere seconds before she was hit.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are urging the driver of the car to come forward and are appealing for any witnesses or other motorists with dashcam footage, including of the woman’s presence on the roadway before the fatal crash, to contact police.
Samia’s death is the 29th life lost on South Australian roads this year.
It comes just days after a spate of fatal accidents across South Australia, including the death of two young men who died in a crash in the Hills and a woman who was crushed in the driveway at her home in Para Hills.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old driver is fighting for life in hospital after a car crashed into a heavy roller parked on the side of the road north of Adelaide.
The teen was flown to hospital in a critical condition after the crash on Haydon Rd at Kangaroo Flat, with emergency services alerted to the scene on Tuesday, just before 7:20pm.
