FOOTY programs across the Territory, including Central Australia, are on hold as AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) reacts to extended Covid-19 restrictions.

After consultations with key stakeholders the AFLNT has cancelled many community events scheduled to take place this week.

Big Rivers Football League (BRFL)

BRFL community football matches and training will not take place in the Katherine region until further notice, as per NT Government restrictions in Greater Darwin.

AFLNT will work with the BRFL clubs and other stakeholders in regard to what this means for community football matches fixtured during this period.

Barkly Australian Football League (BAFL)

BAFL community football matches and training will not take place in the Barkly region until further notice.

Alice Springs Show cancelled over Covid-19 concerns for second year running

Central Australian Football League (CAFL)

CAFL Town and Community football matches and training will not take place in the Greater Alice Springs region until further notice.

NT Thunder Academy

All scheduled Darwin NT Thunder Academy matches and training for this week have been postponed and rescheduled dates will be announced later in the week guided by Northern Territory Government and health advice.

Alice Springs based NT Thunder Academy program will operate as per usual with no travel scheduled for participating players.

School Holiday Programs

Greater Darwin-based School Holiday Programs scheduled for this week will not go ahead. Next week’s programs will be reassessed later this week guided by Northern Territory Government and health advice.

Alice Springs School Holiday Programs will operate as per usual in line with current advice.

Michael Long Learning & Leadership Centre (MLLL) Programs. No programs or camps are taking place in Darwin’s MLLLC for the next two weeks.

Remote Projects

All projects in remote Northern Territory communities will operate as per usual. Staff movements to and from the Greater Darwin region will be halted as per Northern Land Council directive.

A spokesperson for AFLNT said the organisation would continue to work with the NT Government to ensure the health and safety of the community is protected.

“AFLNT will continue to work closely with the NT Government and will be guided by advice from the government and health authorities for all competitions, programs and remote projects,” they said.

“It is important to stay home and get tested if you are feeling unwell or have had any contact with a person from any Government Declared hotspots in the last 14 days.

“It is also important to practice good hygiene at all times – keep up the hand washing and use of soap, as well as sanitiser.

“We encourage you to download and use the Government’s Territory Check In and COVIDSafe app and make sure they are up and running before you leave home.”
