“Obviously not many kids will get to come into contact with many LGBTI people in the community so I think this is really good for them to get see that we’re real people just like everybody else, not scary or different,” she said.

“Most kids love the big glittery outfits and we’ll be bringing along a big bag of props and crowns, so they can just think of us as their fairy godmothers come to life.

“We’ll be reading three books and doing four interactive dances and singalongs.

“The library sent us a list of LGBTI friendly, age appropriate books and we hope the stories encourage them to accept themselves and others as they are.” The Darwin queens said they would begin by holding two trial story time events to see if it goes well before deciding if they should do them more often.

“We’d love for parents to bring their kids along and see for themselves how it is,” Vogue said.

“This is an event for all ages, so young and old are invited to wear their sparkly, shimmery, glittery best and join in.”

Palmerston mum Amy Page said she thought Drag Queen Story Time was a great idea and she would be bringing her children along for the readings.

“I’ve never seen anyone dress up so much to read stories to kids — it’s brilliant,” she said.
