More Territorians aged between 18 and 59 will be able to get the Pfizer vaccine from next month, NT Health Minister Natasha Fyles has announced.

What to expect from COVID post-vaccination

MORE Territorians aged between 18 and 59 will be able to get the Pfizer vaccine from next month.

The government estimates about 20,000 Territorians fall into this age bracket.

However, NT Health Minister Natasha Fyles said a proportion of these people would have already been vaccinated with AstraZeneca or could be frontline workers who have already been vaccinated with Pfizer.

Ms Fyles said the online vaccination system for June was full but more booking opportunities would open up in the next few days.

She said a mass vaccination facility would begin operation in July.

“Right now if you go online to book a vaccination, the Darwin area is at capacity,” she said. “We are at capacity so we are bringing on board the booking appointments for future weeks. The mass vaccination centre will open in July.

“We know that we will see an increase in the quantity of Pfizer vaccine coming into the Northern Territory.

“We are putting on this additional resource to roll that out.

“As we have more locations to provide these appointments, the booking system will reflect that detail.”

Ms Fyles said the mass vaccination centre would be for appointments made online only.

“The centre needs to be appointment-based so as not to overburden our staff,” she said.

Ms Fyles said she was certain the Territory would have adequate supplies of the Pfizer vaccine for Territorians, including those living in remote Aboriginal communities.

“We will be working with our Aboriginal medical organisations to ensure that they have a good supply of Pfizer,” Ms Fyles said.

“They have been doing a wonderful job of vaccinating Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Territorians in both remote and urban areas.

“These organisations are a key partner.”
