POLICE have issued a tourist from NSW with an infringement notice for allegedly failing to wear a mask at an NT airport, in breach of current chief health officer directions.
NT Police report officers were assisting NT Health officials with an incoming flight from Cairns at Gove Airport yesterday when they noticed a man in the departure lounge not wearing a mask
Incident Controller, Acting Commander Sachin Sharma said the 23-year-old man had been given a mask when he checked in, but declined to wear it.

He said the man had been issued with a second mask by police before he was permitted to board his flight.
The man was fined $5056 for failing to comply with health directions.
“It is the responsibility of the traveller to familiarise themselves and comply with the regulations for travelling,” Acting Cdr Sharma said.
“We will continue to enforce (the) chief health officer’s directions with (a) zero tolerance approach.”
The penalty for failing to follow the chief health officer’s directions, which are issued under section 56 of the Public and Environment Health Act 2011, is a $5056 fine for an individual and a $25,280 fine for a business.
