NT Police have impounded a Toyota Hilux after its driver was caught doing burnouts throughout the Darwin CBD in the early hours of the morning. Read the latest.

August 27: NT Police have seized a vehicle that was caught allegedly doing burnouts throughout the Darwin CBD in the early hours of the morning.

NT Darwin Traffic Operations received reports a Toyota HiLux had conducted multiple burnouts in the centre of Darwin about 4am Sunday.

CCTV operators tracked the vehicle and it was later stopped during a traffic apprehension and seized by police under anti-hooning legislation.

The driver was charged with multiple driving offences that will likely result in the loss of his licence.

Superintendent Paul Wood said the behaviour was “dangerous and completely reckless”.

“If you think you will get away with hooning on our roads, think again,” he said.

“This dangerous behaviour could cost you not only a fine, but also your life or the life of those who share the roads with you.”

12yo on bail among trio who allegedly smashed servo windows

August 27, 7am: Three children have been arrested after they were caught allegedly throwing rocks at a Katherine service station to smash its doors and windows.

Northern Watch Commander Steve Rankin said the trio were reported to police about 2am Tuesday.

Sergeant Rankin said Katherine general duties members attended and arrested a 12-year-old boy for an alleged serious breach of bail.

He alleged two girls – aged 13 and 15 – hid nearby but were found by police.

Sergeant Rankin said the 13-year-old girl allegedly spat on one of the officer’s chest, while the 15-year-old girl allegedly removed a medical bandage and threw it at a cop’s face.

He said the trio were taken to the watch house and charged with serious breach of bail, assault police, and criminal damage.

Cop waiting on test results after they were allegedly spat in face

August 24: A police officer is waiting to be medically cleared after allegedly being spat on the face while responding to an incident in North East Arnhem land.

At about 11.10pm on Friday, police officers responded to a mental health matter at Galiwinku on Elcho Island where a man was reportedly acting aggressive.

When police arrived on-scene, the man allegedly spat directly on the face of one of the officers.

The alleged offender was arrested, taken to a health clinic and has since been issued a notice to appear in court.

The police officer allegedly spat on was referred for standard disease testing.

August 24: A knife-wielding man remains at large after allegedly robbing a northern suburbs supermarket in broad daylight and flashing a blade at a bystander.

At about 2pm on Friday, police were notified that a caucasian man in his late teens to early 20s had entered Woolworths Nightcliff where he jumped the main counter and allegedly stole a sum of cash from the till.

Police allege after plundering the till, the alleged offender was fleeing from the premises when he pulled a knife on another person who had initially given chase.

Police have not located the alleged offender and investigations remain ongoing.
