February 16: NT Emergency Services have found and rescued a 71-year-old woman who was missing in Kakadu National Park.

The Joint Emergency Services Communication Centre responded to an incident of a 70-year-old man, who was discovered by Rangers at Nawurlandja Rock Lookout.

Rangers found the man in distress, displaying signs of injury, disorientation and heatstroke.

He told Ranger his wife who had been with him had gone missing leaving him to find help from emergency services.

The Search and Rescue team, in collaboration with local rangers and police, fire and emergency services, undertook ground searches to locate the missing woman.

She was found on Friday morning, and is being treated for dehydration.

Senior Sergeant Jakson Evans said they were pleased to be able to find the missing woman and reunite her with her husband.

“Police would also like to acknowledge and thank the fantastic efforts from all involved,” he said.

“The Search and Rescue comprised of drone operators, a helicopter with the thermal imaging capability during the night, other agency members from the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, and additionally Energy Resources of Australia who provided a paramedic to assist.”

Business owner foils Top End burgalary attempt

February 16: A Berrimah business owner stopped an attempted burglary by blocking the alleged offender with his car before they could flee the scene.

Northern Watch Commander Tanya Woodcock said two unlawful entries were reported to police shortly after 2am Friday.

Sergeant Woodcock said the first took place at a hardware store in the area and the second was at a business selling 4WD accessories.

She said the offender attempted to steal a car from the second premises, but the quick thinking of the business owner stopped them in their tracks.

Sergeant Wilcock said the business owner got to the location quickly after an alarm at the site was triggered.

“The owner of that business attended and they were able to prevent the vehicle from being driven away,” she said.

“They obstructed it with their own vehicle and the offender jumped out and ran away.”

Sergeant Woodcock said Strike Force Trident was investigating and combing through CCTV to identify the offender.

She said no arrests had been made as of 6am Friday.

Manhunt begins for burglar who attacked 60yo in home

February 14: Police are calling for witnesses after a 60-year-old man was attacked in his own home.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard said the man was knocked unconscious in his Coconut Grove home on Sunday evening.

Sergeant Motter-Barnard said the offender was unknown to the man.

He urged anyone who may have information about the aggravated burglary or witnessed suspicious activity near Sovereign Cct between 11pm Sunday and 3am Monday to contact police on 131 444.

“Strike Force Trident are actively investigating this incident and are seeking any information that may assist us in identifying the person(s) responsible,” he said.
