February 15: Police attended almost 200 incidents across Alice Springs in just 24 hours.

Southern Watch Commander Thomas Chalk on Thursday morning said it was a “busy night” for police after attending seven break-ins and four stolen motor vehicle reports.

Sergeant Chalk said the break-ins were spread across Alice Springs and remained under investigation.

He said one of the stolen motor vehicles had been recovered after it was spotted driving erratically through the CBD.

“When it was apprehended, a number of youths were taken into custody,” he said.

He said the remaining three cars were still outstanding.

Sergeant Chalk said one officer was also allegedly attacked while responding to an alleged domestic violence incident early on Thursday morning.

He said the cop was “okay” and able to continue his duties – an 18-year-old has been taken into custody and will face charges for domestic violence and assaulting a police officer.

Man arrested after alleged hospital break-in

February 14: A man has been arrested after he allegedly broke into Alice Springs Hospital and rummaged through staff belongings.

Southern Watch Commander Mick Fields said the 42-year-old man allegedly jumped a perimeter fence at 4.18am Wednesday.

Sergeant Fields said the man allegedly used a rock to break an external window and used a staff door to access employee offices.

He said the impacted section in the hospital was an old emergency ward that had been turned into an administrative area and no patients had been affected by the alleged break-in.

Sergeant Fields said hospital security detained the man until police arrived, who took him to the Alice Springs watch house.

He said police expected to lay charges against the man – including criminal trespass and criminal damage – later on Wednesday.

‘Getting back on track’: Reduced break-ins across 24-hour period

February 12: NT Police responded to just three Alice Springs break-ins over a 24-hour period, a sign the region is “getting back on track”, one cop says.

Southern Watch Commander Mick Fields said the break-ins – spread across Sadadeen and Gillen – took place between 11pm Sunday and 1am Monday.

Sergeant Fields said alcohol and cash was stolen from one of the targeted homes.

He said an occupant of one of the Sadadeen residences was home at the time of the incident and “disturbed” the offenders.

Sergeant Fields said the occupant was uninjured in the confrontation and saw two young people fleeing the scene.

He said there was no reason to believe the break-ins were related to one another, and no arrests had been made in relation to any incident.
