Police seized a machete, replica pistol, and an amphetamine substance when they arrested two men in Palmerston.

Commander Daniel Bacon said CCTV operators spotted a man walking to a parked car on The Boulevard – allegedly armed with a machete – about 2.30am Saturday.

Commander Bacon said general duties members were deployed and located the 27-year-old man and arrested him without incident.

He said the machete and a replica pistol allegedly stashed in the vehicle’s front bumper were seized.

Commander Bacon said a second man – aged 33 – was arrested in relation to the replica pistol and a quantity of amphetamine-type substance.

He said CCTV operators also directed general duties members to a “suspicious package” near the car which contained another quantity of amphetamine substance.

“The exceptional work between our dedicated ground members and CCTV operators demonstrates the unparalleled efficacy of real-time communication and prompt actions, unequivocally safeguarding public safety and facilitating the apprehension of individuals engaged in illicit activities,” he said.

The pair has been charged with being armed with an offensive weapon at night and possession of a schedule 1 drug, less than trafficable quantity.

They will appear in the Darwin Local Court on February 20.
