A man is due to face court after allegedly hitting a police officer with his car and crashing into a family’s car, injuring four people inside it.

Police will allege he was attempting to flee a roadside breath test in Sydney’s west at the time.

Officers stopped a BMW SUV on Belmore Rd, Riverwood, on Saturday for a random breath test, with the driver, 21, returning a positive result.

However, when officers attempted to place him under arrest, they will allege the man drove off and hit a police officer as he fled the scene.

Police initiated a pursuit, but it was terminated shortly afterwards due to safety concerns.

A short time later, the same BMW was found to have crashed into a Ford Utility containing a family on River Rd, Picnic Point.
