A southwest Sydney family of four woke to a deafening bang, and headlights beaming in their living room as a car ploughed into their home on Good Friday.

Car flies into house in Lurnea

A shocked family have described the terrifying moment a car ploughed through their southwest Sydney living room.

Mahmoud Alzein, his wife Lojain Dweik, and two young children were asleep in their Lurnea home last night when they woke to a deafening bang, and the sight of headlights beaming into their home, after a car lost control, hitting a brick wall and becoming airborne, landing inside their front room.

“The sight of the light of the car inside my house with all the glass and the smashed bricks, the sound … I was shaking for three hours,” Mr Alzein said.

He raced to check on his kids before rushing to the car’s driver.

“She looked young, around 20. She didn’t say anything.”

“I can’t believe it. The car flew from the road,” he said.

Thankfully the family’s car narrowly avoided damage.

“There’s only one wall dividing the living room and his room. Imagine if it didn’t hit the corner of that wall, it would have gone straight into [my son’s] room,” he said.

7-year-old Amir Alzein said the car was going “as fast as Sonic.”

“I heard the car speeding, I was shivering! It was so fast. We are lucky the car didn’t explode,” he said.

“It went vrooooooooom, a smash, and then all I heard was glass breaking and bricks falling,” he said.

More to come.
