CONSTRUCTION has begun on Palmerston’s new $25 million fire, rescue and emergency station.
Earthworks and demolition began for the Palmerston Regional Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services Complex on Howard Springs Road, which will be home to station firefighters and the Palmerston NTES Volunteers Unit.

The complex will have increased capacity for larger crew numbers on extreme fire danger days, operation and meeting rooms, a training area, breathing apparatus room and a workshop and communications tower.
Early works will continue for the new few weeks, followed by foundation laying in March weather permitting.
Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Minister Eva Lawler said the project would support more than 240 jobs during construction and be a critical part of the rural community.

“Strategically located, the new fire station will ensure our fire fighters can get to emergencies quicker in Palmerston and the rural areas – making it safer for the community,” she said.
“Palmerston is growing and we are investing in its future by providing better amenities and services that our community needs and wants.”
