OLD filing cabinets full of “sensitive information” from Territory Families, Housing and Communities were accidentally taken to Darwin’s Tip Shop.

In a statement on Friday, TFHC said an investigation had been launched into how excess or broken office cabinets were disposed of at the Shoal Bay facility.

They were thrown away on October 7, with the department only realising files may have remained inside the cabinets four days later.

The department said the cabinets were located and then scoured for any remaining documents.

In the statement, TFHC said it was assessing whether anyone was impacted and urged anyone holding the documents of their “obligations under the Information Act”, that it was illegal to use confidential information.
