NT deputy mayor hopes to crackdown on child safety and reducing crime

A 15-YEAR-OLD girl has been charged after allegedly threatening three cabbies on separate occasions with a weapon.

The girl was arrested by Strike Force Trident police after she allegedly threatened three taxi drivers, demanding money.

The alleged incident occurred on Henry Ellis Street, Alawa between 6.15am and 7am.

Police were called to the street at 7am and cordoned off part of the street to allow forensic police to process the scene, including a 13cabs mini van.

Police allege she struck the driver’s side window of one of the taxi’s with the weapon.

The drivers all fled in their vehicles and called police.

The road was reopened around 9.30am.

The girl was charged with three counts each of assault with intent to steal with a weapon and going armed in public and is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.

Residents of the street said they did not hear any commotion, only realising police were outside their homes when they got up for the day.

A 13cabs spokesman said it was disappointing the driver had allegedly been assaulted.

“13cabs would to start by extending our thoughts to Driver and his family. We have been in touch with him and offered to support him during this difficult time,” he said.
