Darwin Cup Carnival ambassador Lily North said the four-day carnival had been a whirlwind of meeting people, showing off the Top End’s designers through her outfits and celebrating the winners of each race day.
“It’s been such a fantastic opportunity … it was so long ago when it came out that I was announced as the ambassador and then obviously everything with COVID happened, we weren’t sure if it was even going to go ahead,” Ms North said.
“We’re so blessed that we can actually have a carnival and I feel very lucky that I can be the face, of the carnival for 2020.”

Gary Clarke Racing trainer Gary Clarke has four horses in the main race, including five-year-old gelding Live and Free.
Mr Clarke said it was unusual to have so many horses in the one race and there had been a lot of preparation to get the horses race ready.
“It’s not a race that you just sort of decide to start a horse in, there’s six months of planning that goes into a race like this,” he said.
“It’s a little bit stressful coming into the last couple of weeks you know … they are animals and you just gotta hope they don’t hurt themselves leading into the race because you can’t really afford setbacks going into a race like the Darwin Cup.”
Riding Live and Free is jockey Jarrod Todd, who last won the Cup in 2017 on Royal Request.
“He’s (Live and Free) a class horse and they paid a bit of money for him and he’s got pretty good form,” he said.
“It’s going to be his second start going into the cup on the strap and he’s improved a lot from his first run so I’m excited to see what he’s going to do.”
