Man taken to hospital after Berrimah Rd and Tiger Brennan Dr intersection crash causes delays

A man was taken to hospital by St John ambulance after a two-car crash caused major delays on Tiger Brennan Dr on Friday morning.

FRI, MAY 27, 9.30AM: A MALE driver was taken to hospital by St John Ambulance officers after a two-car crash at the intersection of Berrimah Rd and Tiger Brennan Dr about 7.30am on Friday.

Palmerston resident Sivhakar Krishna was dropping his wife to work when his vehicle and another car were involved in the crash.

“So we were going down towards the city and there was an amber light so everyone was slowing down, this guy came by the side and hit us on the side so on an angle,” Mr Krishna alleged.

“After that the guy went unconscious because he hit his driver’s side and it was pretty bad, my wife had a bit of whiplash, that’s it.”

Standing on the side of Tiger Brennan Dr, Mr Krishna and his wife waited to be picked up by his dad.

“Technically that’s my brother’s car so he’s not going to be happy – a bit of a disappointment really,” he said.

Police media have been contacted for comment.

Woman allegedly beaten by crutches

THURS, MAY 26, 7.30AM: A woman is in hospital after she was allegedly beaten with a crutch in Alice Springs.

NT Police have confirmed a man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault following the alleged incident on Wednesday evening.

Police will allege a 35-year-old man struck the woman multiple times on the head with a crutch.

Patrols arrived after 11pm and gave the 29-year-old woman first-aid and she was later taken to hospital with head injuries.

The 35-year-old will face Alice Springs Local Court on Wednesday.

Two youths charged after Top End crime spree

WED, MAY 25, 1.30PM: TWO male youths have been charged after a crime spree in Darwin and Palmerston earlier this month.

A 13-year-old and 15-year-old have been charged after their alleged involvement in a number of property offences around Fannie Bay, the Darwin Waterfront Precinct and Casuarina.

Police arrested both the boys on May 3.

Investigations since then revealed their involvement in other property offences during May 2 and 3.

The 13-year-old was charged with 11 counts of trespass on premises, eight counts of unlawful entry, five counts of stealing, two counts of aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle, one count of unlawful use of motor vehicle and one count of damage to property.

The 15-year-old was charged with five counts of trespass on premises, four counts of aggravated unlawful use of motor vehicle, three counts of stealing and three counts of unlawful entry.

The duo will appear in court in late June.

Land and water search on for Galiwinku woman

WED, MAY 25, 10.30AM: A LAND and water search is underway for a 69-year-old woman missing in the Galiwinku area.

The woman was last seen at her residence on the evening of Sunday 22 May 2022.

Police are calling for information as they search alongside community members and specialist teams on the island and in nearby coastal waters.

She is described as of being Indigenous with grey medium length hair and was last seen wearing a black skirt and top.

Anyone with information should contact police on 131 444.

Note: The family requested that the images of the 69-year-old were removed after her body was found on Friday, May 27.

Four youths caught red-handed amid shopping centre break-in

MAY 25 WED 7AM: CAUGHT in the act red-handed, four youths were ambushed by police mid breaking into a Top End shopping centre in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Northern Watch Commander Rod Hayman the groups of youths aged between 13 and 16-years were spotted by police CCTV operators, smashing into the Malak Shopping Centre.

“We were watching them, it took 3 or 4 minutes to gain entry and we had units already on their way and once they were inside the police were less than a minute away,” Cmmr Hayman said.

“They saw us and legged it out through one of the side doors, we saw them running out and apprehended them.

“We had four units attend and they basically had nowhere to run because we had too many police in the area at that given time and they just sort of stopped and gave us.”

All four youths are being dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

Joy-riding youths

MAY 24 TUE 7AM: FIVE youths, between the ages of 10 to 13-years-old in Central Australia didn’t get too far in an alleged stolen ute when police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device.

Police reports say the grey Toyota HiLux was stolen from a hotel in the early hours of Friday morning in Alice Springs after a break-in.

The ute was seen being driven by youths around Alice Springs on several occasions throughout the day.

About 3.20am on Saturday, police and members of Strike Force Viper conducted a co-ordinated response in deploying the tyre deflation device and resulted in the vehicle being dumped on the north Stuart Hwy and the youth occupants fleeing the scene.

Five youths, aged 10 to 13-years-old were located in the area shortly after and was apprehended by police.

Four youths will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act and a fifth youth was charged with Serious Breach of Bail.

Teen charged

A TEENAGE boy has been charged with multiple burglary offences after a string of alleged unlawful entries and “ransackings” of homes in Alice Springs earlier this month.

In the first incident, police allege the 15-year-old entered a residence in East Side on April 3 and stole items from the victim’s vehicle.

Then on May 2, the same boy allegedly “ransacked” another home in Larapinta and stole “several items of significant value”.

Two days later on May 4, he allegedly again ransacked a home in Larapinta “and stole a number of items while causing a significant amount of damage to the property”.

An NT Police spokeswoman said investigations by Strike Force Viper led to the identification of the boy, who was located and arrested on Friday morning.

He was charged with three counts of unlawful entry, three counts of stealing, two counts of property damage and one count of trespass.

He was remanded in custody and will face court on May 26.

Man on run after stealing handbag and fleeing

A MAN who stole a handbag at a popular Top End shopping centre is on the run from police.

It is alleged the man was chased down by the victim and a number of bystanders before he dropped the bag and fled the scene in the direction of the bus exchange.

The incident occurred around 3.30pm on Sunday at Casuarina.

Police describe the man they are looking for as Aboriginal with a slim build and short goatee and aged between 18 and 30.

When the incident occurred he was wearing an Oakland 30 singlet, grey shorts and green camo hat with a strap on his right knee.

Police are calling for any witnesses to come forward and contact police on 131 444.

NT Ambos had a busy weekend

A CATFISH barb, a fall down a flight of stairs, bikes tragedies and injuries made for a “pretty busy” weekend for all ambos across the Territory.

St John NT operations manager Craig Garraway said a man who was fishing at Mandorah had “got a barb in him” after coming into contact with a catfish about 8pm on Sunday.

“We had a male out there (who) caught a catfish and it appeared he got a barb from that catfish in him which was quite painful,” Mr Garraway told ABC Darwin.

“So paramedics met up with him and took him into the Royal Darwin Hospital.”

In the early hours of Monday morning, a person fell down a 10m set of stairs in Stuart Park and was rushed to hospital with “serious injuries”.

“We had a person fall down a set of stairs about 10m and suffered serious injuries as a result of that and is in hospital at the moment receiving treatment,” he said.

About 1pm on Sunday, a person riding their motorbike on the Cox Peninsula Rd near Berry Springs crashed and was taken to hospital with two broken ankles and back injuries.

It comes after a 51-year-old man died after a motorcycle crash near Alice Springs.

“(Sunday was) not a good day for motorbike riders,” he said.
