THE welcome sight, sound and smell of rain greeted Darwin and Palmerston residents this morning.

Suburbs in the northern areas of Darwin including Parap, Woolner and Anula were treated to a stready spattering of rainfall this morning.

The light rain started just after sunrise.

The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts the day to be partly cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of more showers.

The rain so far, though, appears to be too light — or have fallen in the wrong spots — to be recorded in the BoM’s gauges with its website showing nothing has been recorded in the Darwin region yet today.

Pirlangimpi and Point Fawcett have both recorded showers with the gauges seeing 0.4 and 1.2 respectively.
