Police urge victims to call police before posting on social media

A 17-YEAR-OLD male has been arrested in relation to alleged trespassing and stealing at a laundromat in two separate incidents in Alice Springs.

Acting Sergeant Shane King said Strike Force Viper was identified in a trespassing incident at a Gillen address on January 29.

On January 31 he was also allegedly involved in a property damage and stealing incident at a laundromat

He urge victims of crime to report all offences prior to posting on social media platforms.

“We urge all victims of crime to contact police in the first instance,” said A/Sgt King said.

“Police identified one of the offenders in these incidents via CCTV footage uploaded to social media and proactively followed up with the victim.

“We recognise social media helps the community in providing an online neighbourhood watch style of communication. However in order to investigate the incident, we require victims to make the report.”

He said anyone who needed police assistance should call 131 444, and for an emergency or a life-threatening situation call triple-0.

The offender was refused police bail and is to be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
