A MAN in his 60s has been bitten by a snake near Berry Springs and taken to Palmerston Hospital by paramedics.

It is not yet known what species of snake bit him.

This makes it difficult to administer an anti-venom, St John Ambulance operations manager Craig Garraway told ABC Radio.

The man was bitten by the snake on Wednesday — the second reported snake bite in the Territory this week — after a 10-year-old Alice Springs girl was bitten on both feet by a King Brown snake that slithered into her bed on Tuesday.

An incident near Katherine on Monday, that was originally reported as a snake bite, turned out to be a false alarm.

After observation and tests at Katherine Hospital, doctors determined that the 47-year-old woman had no trace of venom in her system.

She was discharged from hospital the same day.
