Lawyers for man allegedly at centre of Darwin CBD siege work through ‘large volume of evidence’ against him

A MAN allegedly at the centre of a six-hour siege in Darwin has appeared in court as his lawyers comb through “a large volume of evidence” against him

A MAN allegedly at the centre of a six-hour siege in the Darwin CBD has appeared in court as his lawyers comb through “a large volume of evidence” against him.

Shem Reece Rotumah, 30, on Wednesday appeared in the Darwin Local Court via video link from prison, where he is on remand.

He stands charged with 18 offences including deprivation of liberty, making threats to kill, assaulting police and seven counts of aggravated assault in relation to the siege in late October.

Rotumah sat rocking on his chair as his legal aid lawyer, Eleanor Martin, told the court the defence had been served with a brief of evidence, including “a large volume of video footage to go through”.

Prosecutor Rebecca Everitt told the court there was still more evidence against Rotumah to come.

The matter was adjourned and will return to court on March 3.
