THE number of trainees and apprentices in the Territory is soaring.
There are 3911 people, either trainees or apprentices in training and of these, 1165 started their course this year, which is an increase of 28 per cent on last year.
It’s a figure that Chief Minister Michael Gunner says is proof of strong industry confidence and the Territory’s success as the comeback capital.

Charlie Wrigley is part of that success. The 18-year-old is a trainee at award-winning restaurant Pee Wee’s at the Point and has urged others to think of a traineeship and a job in the Territory. “Pee Wee’s has been an incredible opportunity and I am excited about becoming a fully qualified chef,” he said. “It’s hard work but it’s work worth doing.”
Pee Wee’s owner Simon Matthews said Mr Wrigley had been a star chef and it was a great career path for young people to get a trade.
