Palmerston Pool to receive $5m for renovations as part of $11.7m federal govnt spend on NT projects
The Palmerston Swimming and Fitness Centre is among a number of Territory organisations which will receive federal funding, NT Senator Sam McMahon has revealed.

PALMERSTON Swimming and Fitness Centre will receive a $5m overhaul as part of a major funding announcement by the federal government on Friday.
NT Senator Sam McMahon has revealed $11.7m will be spent on a series of new projects across the Territory.
That includes $949,500 to go to a new patient transfer facility for the Royal Flying Doctor Service at Tennant Creek. The town’s ambulance service will receive another $90,000 to support youth development.
Baptist Care NT will be given $3.8m to build a new logistics warehouse for Foodbank NT at the Darwin International Airport.
The government said projects will be delivered as part of the fifth round of the Building Better Regions Fund.
Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce said the projects would have long-term benefits for the community.
“Infrastructure upgrades funded in this latest round will ensure our regions remain great places to live and visit, while helping support important regional industries which create jobs,” Mr Joyce said.
The funding includes:
- City of Palmerston will receive $5,000,000 to renovate and upgrade the Palmerston Swimming and Fitness Centre, creating a swimming, wellness, events, leisure, and lifestyle precinct
- The Royal Flying Doctor Service will receive $949,500 to build a patient transfer facility and hangar at Tennant Creek Airport
- Food Bank Alice Springs will receive $141,735 to build new freezer and cool room facilities
- Cocos Island Shire Council will get $1,562,000 to redevelop the Tokoh Building on Home Island to include a museum, a visitor centre, toilets, and space for tourism businesses.
- East Arnhem Tourist Growth project will receive $156,004 to develop a three-year destination marketing plan for East Arnhem Land and deliver a signature event “East Arnhem Live”.
- St John’s Ambulance Tennant Creek will receive $90,000 to deliver a strategic plan to support youth development in the Northern Territory.
- Shire of Christmas Island will receive $40,000 for two events at Territory Week Festival
- Baptist Care NT will receive $3,800,000 for a new logistics warehouse for Foodbank NT at Darwin airport.
