A $15M project that would revitalise Palmerston’s only swimming pool has taken another step forward after the council lodged a development application for the proposal.

The City of Palmerston’s proposed SWELL (Swimming, Wellness, Events, Leisure, Lifestyle) project is expected to transform the 30-year-old Palmerston Swimming and Fitness Centre into a contemporary, family-friendly water and lifestyle precinct.

A development application for the project was lodged with the NT government on Friday.

According to the document, upgrades will include refurbishment of the centre’s existing 50m lap pool as well as construction of a new leisure pool and a new outdoor safety and wellness pool.

The project will also involve construction of an adventure play area, half basketball court, and multipurpose outdoor space, and a new cafe.

Works are expected to take place over three stages.

Palmerston Mayor Athina Pascoe-Bell has previously said the project was part of council’s strategic vision to provide vital facilities for Palmerston residents and create a valuable asset for the region.
