ANGLERS have been warned to be responsible with their equipment after a crocodile was found dead in a crab pot off Arnhem Land.
Top End fisho Geoffrey Schild said they discovered the croc off Nhulunbuy.
“Unfortunately it was dead when we found him,” he said. “It had drowned in a pot that wasn’t ours. We didn’t take it out as it had started to decay. Poor fella. It was about 2m.”

NT Fisheries director Ian Curnow said the capture of crocodiles in marine crab pots was “certainly not” a common occurrence.
“Generally speaking a crocodile will tear a crab pot open to gain access to bait rather than enter the pot,” he said.
