The boss of NT Health is stepping down from the top job to take on another major role in the NT government.
Frank Daly, who became chief executive of the Department of Health in May 2021, was announced as the new chief executive for the Department of Chief Minister and Cabinet.
Dr Daly has been a senior figure of the public sector for the better part of a decade and has 30 years experience in the health system.
Chief Minister Natasha Fyles welcomed Dr Daly’s appointment to her department, which she said came about following an “extensive recruitment process”.
“Dr Daly’s career has focused on leading departments through difficult situations – his decades of experience will be an asset to the Territory, as we continue to grow our economy and make sure we continue to address the social needs of our vulnerable Territorians,” she said.
He takes over from Jodie Ryan, who was the boss of the Department during Michael’s Gunner’s reign.
Dr Daly’s tenure did not come without controversy, with his appointment raising a few eyebrows in the Opposition.
His previous role as chief executive of the Child and Adolescent Health Service in Western Australia ended suddenly, following a review of staff morale which recommended immediate changes.
Dr Daly was also recently criticised by Australian Medical Association NT president Rob Parker for confusion over a reshuffle of the senior leadership roles at Royal Darwin Palmerston Hospital.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Marco Briceno will be the acting chief executive as NT Health seek to replace Dr Daly.
