Authorities are urging anyone who has travelled from Sydney to the NT to check the NSW and Territory Health website for exposure sites right across Australia’s largest city.

Venues put on alert as NSW Health investigates Sydney Covid case

NEW measures have been slapped on anyone who has been to exposure sites in New South Wales, after four cases of community transmission in the state.

NT chief health officer Dr Hugh Heggie has directed anyone deemed a ‘close contact’ at venues in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs will need to self-isolate for 14-days.

Arrivals into the Territory who’ve been to exposure sites will also need to get a Covid-19 test and spend their fortnight in isolation “in their home or at a suitable place”, regardless of if they test negative.

NT Health Minister Natasha Fyles didn’t rule out further requirements being put in place.

“We are watching that situation very closely,” Ms Fyles said.

“My advice is if you’ve been in New South Wales recently, please check the New South Wales and Northern Territory health websites for that latest information site around exposure sites.”

As of Thursday afternoon, NSW health authorities had confirmed four new locally acquired cases of Covid-19.

Exposure sites were mainly clustered around the eastern suburbs of Vaucluse and Bondi Junction, including a cafe visited four times over five days, with some sites in the inner west and north west of Sydney.

The cluster appeared after a man in his 60s who lives is Sydney’s eastern suburbs testing positive for Covid-19.

The man works as a driver, which includes transporting international flight crew. The man visited a number of locations while being potentially infectious.

'No room for complacency' in NSW as outbreak grows

Dr Heggie said he was regularly in contact with his interstate counterparts about the situation.

“NSW Health is working to urgently undertake contact tracing and we will continue to watch this closely as more information emerges,” he said.

No link has yet been found to hotel quarantine, however the strain is the infectious Delta variant from India.

Existing hotspot declaration rules around Melbourne remain in place, meaning arrivals from the Victorian capital must isolate in Howard Springs for two weeks.
