AN 18-year-old man has been arrested after the alleged sexual assault and aggravated assault of a woman in Tennant Creek earlier this week.

The teenager was arrested on Wednesday after the alleged sexual assault on Tuesday, on Paterson St.

It follows an investigation by the Tennant Creek Investigations Unit.

He was taken to the Tennant Creek Watch House where he is expected to be charged with one count of aggravated assault and one count of sexual intercourse without consent.

Men arrested after stealing car, ramming Humpty Doo shop

THREE men have been arrested after CCTV allegedly caught them using a stolen car to ram and raid a Humpty Doo business.

Just after 5am yesterday, the trio were allegedly seen damaging the commercial business with a Toyota Prado before unlawfully entering and stealing alcohol.

It is alleged the group then fuelled up at a petrol station in Durack before driving off without paying.

Members of Strike Force Trident located the alleged offenders in the vehicle parked in Malak, where they arrested a 21-year-old man.

The other two then allegedly sped off in the vehicle before leaving it in Malak.

Another 21-year-old was arrested during a foot pursuit, with the outstanding offender arrested later that day. `

All three men have been charged with various counts of unlawful entry, damage of property, aggravated unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing.

Youth hands himself in after Top End break-in

A YOUNG man forced his way into an Anula hairdressing salon before spotting himself on CCTV and using their landline to dob himself in on early Wednesday morning.

Leaving minimal damage behind, the random act of crime has left the Anula hair salon, Carlee Hair Design in despair, as the incident marks the humble businesses second break-in this year.

Co-owner John Bradley stood outside the salon at 9am on Wednesday – frustrated and tired – he was waiting for investigators to attend their business – again.

He said the young man who broke in stayed for about 30 minutes, wandering around the salon looking through drawers and cupboards, the intruder made 14 phone calls on the business landline.

“He made a lot of phone calls,” Mr Bradley said.

“The stress that this is causing to the business is ridiculous, it just doesn’t stop.”

Northern Watch Commander Caragh Hen said the 16-year-old forced his way into the salon about 4.30am on Wednesday.

“So he broke in, saw himself on CCTV, realised that he’d been busted, and then used the landline phone at the premises to call the police,” Commander Hen said. “He stayed on the phone speaking with the call taker until police arrived and arrested him.”

Mr Bradley said the damage from Wednesday morning was still to be assessed but he said if he needs to replace the door it could cost the business close to $8000.

“Mentally it’s very draining, financially, we’re lucky this time. There’s minimal damage this time but usually there’s between $10,000 and $50,000 worth of damage,” Mr Bradley said.

“I don’t know if these doors will be okay.”

Since being arrested, Senior Sergeant Siiri Tennosaar confirmed the youth has since been with unlawful entry and damage to property after he was arrested at the scene.

He has been bailed to appear in court on March 18.

Alice Springs break-in

ANOTHER Alice Springs home has fallen victim to a break-in on Tuesday morning.

Southern Watch Commander Allan Milner said the Nicker Cres home was broken into via the rear door after it was smashed in between 7am to 7.30am on Tuesday.

“At this stage we don’t know what was stolen, we’re waiting for a report from the victim,” Commander Milner said.

“Just be very aware, these days unlawful entries are being caused by damage to gain entry and still make sure they secure the premises before going to bed.”

A TOP END motor vehicle crash has left a 63-year-old man with a number of neck and back injuries.

St John NT Craig Garraway said the man was in “not too serious” condition after the Bombing Rd crash but did require to be sent to the Royal Darwin Hospital for assessment.

“Hopefully we’ll get a bit more rain come back next week and just be aware on the roads when that rain does come back because it will be slippery again,” Mr Garraway said.

Alleged handbag theft

POLICE have arrested a man who allegedly tried to steal a woman’s bags and knocked her to the ground.

On Saturday in Durack, police say a 26-year-old woman was walking on the street about 8pm when approached by a man, who “grabbed her bags and propositioned her”.

She declined and was able to recover her bags.

The man then allegedly tried to steal her bags again and assaulted her, knocking her to the ground before running away.

Two witnesses chased the man and restrained him until police arrived.

NT duty superintendent Mark Malogorski said the 25-year-old was charged with aggravated robbery.

He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court on March 7.

Man arrested after serious DV incident

A MAN has been remanded in custody over a serious domestic violence incident in Darwin on Saturday.

Ambulance were called to Mindil Beach early Saturday morning after being contacted by a man who had assaulted his partner. After making the call, police say the man left the area.

The woman was taken by paramedics to Royal Darwin Hospital where she is in a stable condition.

Police have charged the man with aggravated assault, breaching a domestic violence order, choking and serious harm.

Det Sen Sgt Brett Cottier said the incident was a police priority.

“This is a great result and the detectives, general duties and dog operations unit did everything they could to put a violent family violence offender in jail and ensure the victim feels safe.

The man was remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Local Court at a later date.

Duo charged after allegedly knocking out man

POLICE have charged two people after a man was allegedly knocked unconscious and his vehicle stolen.

On Friday about 9.40pm, police say a motorist was flagged down in Moulden and upon stopping, was allegedly assaulted, knocked unconscious and his vehicle stolen.

Passing motorists later found the man and called police. He was taken to Palmerston Regional Hospital with minor injuries and has since been discharged.

Police found the stolen vehicle at 1.20am in Palmerston and arrested a 34-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman.

The man was charged with robbery in company, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and other driving offences.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brett Cottier said both were refused bail and will appear in Darwin Local Court on a date to be set.

Charges for alleged assault

NT Police have charged a man in relation to a serious assault in Stuart Park last week.

At 12.10am on February 26 police received a report of a man assaulting a woman on Ramirez Rd.

The male was seen dragging the victim along the road with the victim later found with extensive injuries by police and paramedics in a nearby laneway.

Detective Sergeant Michael Budge said members from the Domestic and Family Violence Unit arrested the man on Friday morning.

He was later charged with intent to cause serious harm, failing to render assistance and engaging in conduct in contravention of DVO.

Police are said to be opposing bail with a court date yet to be set.

“Domestic violence is unfortunately common, but it is never acceptable. Police will continue to work with the community to target these offenders,” Me Budge said.

“It is everyone’s business to speak out and work together to prevent this senseless violence.”

Man charged for stealing, drug possession

A MAN has been charged after multiple incidents of stealing from a Yarrawonga business.

Police arrested the 29-year-old man who they allege used a feigned trade account to steal from the retail shop at least 11 times since last year.

The man has been charged with 11 counts of stealing and multiple counts of possessing drugs.

“Search warrants executed on the man’s residence yesterday uncovered a number of stolen items, a quantity of cannabis and methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia,” Acting Sergeant Aaron Watts said.

Police hunt for Alice Springs man

POLICE are on the hunt for an Alice Springs man who evaded them after a traffic incident last month.

On February 25, police attempted to pull the man, identified as 43-year-old Johnathon “Johnny” Richards, over after he was observed driving recklessly.

He failed to obey their instructions and drove off “in a dangerous manner”.

Police were unable to track him down and are now calling on the public to assist.

Mr Richards is described as being of caucasian appearance, 190cm tall with a slim build, short greying hair and short face stubble.

Woman dies following February hit and run

A 51-year-old women has died following a hit and run incident in Darwin in February.

The woman was struck by a vehicle before being taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with life threatening injuries.

She was later transported to South Australia for further medical treatment, however died as a result of her injuries.

A 52-year-old man was arrested in relation to the incident.

He has been charged with a hit and run causing serious harm and appeared before court last month.

Police release image of man in connection with serious assault

NORTHERN Territory Police are on the lookout for a person of interest in an assault in Stuart Park on Friday night.

Police say they would like to speak with Mr James Dhamarrandji in relation to the serious assault.

At about 12:10am on 26 February, police received a report of a man dragging a woman on Ramirez Road. Police and paramedics attended and located a woman with extensive injuries in a nearby laneway and transported her to Royal Darwin Hospital.

At the time Det Snr Sgt Michael Budge said: “We believe this is a domestic violence incident, however we have not yet located the offender.

“This was a very serious assault and the offender must be held accountable.

“We are calling on anyone who was in the area between 11pm and 1am who may have dashcam or CCTV footage, or who has other information to come forward.”

Police today released an image of Mr Dhamarrandji. He is described as 39-years-old, approximately 175cm tall with a muscular built.

They ask Mr Dhamarrandji or anybody else to contact police on 131444 and quote reference number 9936184.

An Alice Springs business had it’s doors

AN Alice Springs business First National Real Estate Framptons was broken into on Wednesday night after police were deployed to the premises when the alarms were set off.

Southern Watch Commander Vicki Koum said it appeared the front door was “knocked in” and police were still gathering information and conducting inquiries.

“We had what appears to be a break (in) in the city between 11.110pm and 11.20pm,” Cmdr Koum said.

“Given that it was in the middle of the night, unfortunately we haven’t spoken to who we need to speak to.

“What was stolen is still not known.”

Forensics are expected to arrive to the scene later in the day.

The incident remains under investigation.

Meth seized

TWO men have been charged with drug offences following a significant police seizure of methamphetamine.

Officers from the Drugs and Organised Crime section executed search warrants in Yarrawonga and Gunn on Tuesday.

During the search police located a commercial quantity of methamphetamine, a large amount of cash and items indicative of drug supply.

The men, aged 37 and 28, were arrested on site.

The 37-year-old has been charged with two counts of supplying a commercial quantity of a schedule 1 drug and two counts of possessing a commercial quantity of a schedule 1 drug.

He has also been charged with importing a marketable quantity of drugs, receive property, possessing a trafficable quantity of a schedule 1 drug in a public place and possessing less than a trafficable quantity of a schedule 1 drug.

The 28-year-old was charged with supplying a commercial quantity of a schedule 1 drug, possessing a commercial quantity of a schedule 1 drug and importing a marketable quantity of drugs.

Both have been remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court on March 9 and April 27.

Two men charged in relation to animal cruelty and unlawful entry

TWO men have been charged in relation to a violent incident in which a pet dog was killed in Palmerston.

A 40-year-old male and 39-year-old male were arrested by The Gangs Taskforce this week.

They were charged with one count of unlawful entry and three counts of property damage.

Investigations remain ongoing, with a call for public help to locate a man in relation to this incident.

Police believe 35-year-old Patrick Mulhall (pictured) can assist with inquiries.

Detective Acting Sergeant Jon Spencer said: “Mr Mulhall should not be approached by members of public and police are urging anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Mr Mulhall to make contact on 131 444. Please quote reference 9937559.”

18-YEAR-OLD FOUND AFTER BEING MISSING FOR 24 HOURS

UPDATE 7AM, WED: AN 18-YEAR-OLD girl who went missing in the Virginia area on Monday has been found.

NT Police confirmed on Tuesday that Richelle Alolor had been located, and they were no longer concerned for her welfare.

Police thanked everyone who shared the message and came forward with information.

INITIAL 4PM, TUES: NT Police are calling for public information following the disappearance of 18-year-old Richelle Alolor.

Sergeant George Watkinson said Alolor was last seen in the Virginia area around 1.30pm on Monday.

She is described as 160cm tall with a slim build, fair complexion, curly light brown hair and brown eyes with a scar above her left eyebrow.

She was last seen wearing a black Adidas shirt, black jeans, blue Adidas shoes and carrying a pink Nike bag.

Anyone with information on Richelle Alolor’s whereabouts is asked to contact police on 131 444 and quote reference 9938422.

Police investigate Alice Springs house fire

AN investigation has been launched into an Alice Springs house fire which destroyed a vehicle and caused extensive damage to a home that occurred overnight.

Firefighters responded to multiple reports of the house fire about 1.20am Tuesday at the Jennerae Drive home.

On arrival fire crews found a vehicle and carport fully engulfed by fire, and smoke and flames coming from the roof of the building.

Fire fighters in breathing apparatus undertook an internal search of the property, which was unoccupied at the time and continued to conduct an internal attack of the fire.

The house fire was successfully brought under control by fire crews by 2.30am.

The fire destroyed a vehicle parked in the carport of the home and caused extensive damage to the structure of the home.

Fire investigators are on scene and an investigation into the circumstances and cause of the fire is ongoing.

Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area of Jennerae Drive from midnight to 1.30am to contact them.

Additional to this, anyone with CCTV or dashcam from this area during this time period, is urged to contact police.

Pet dog killed

A PET dog has been killed and another seriously injured following a “violent incident” in Palmerston yesterday.

Police say around 6.20pm on Sunday, seven people unlawfully entered a Driver residence, causing extensive property damage, killing a dog and seriously injuring another.

Commander Matthew Hollamby said police understood the offenders and victims were known to each other and the incident would be investigated by the Gangs Task Force.

“This is horrible behaviour,” Commander Hollamby said.

“A number of individuals have already been identified and they will be held to account.

“A pet dog has been violently killed and another seriously injured in a cowardly and organised attack.

“NT Police has zero tolerance for gang-related activity.”

Man sacked from his job for allegedly supplying drugs to an indigenous community

A 52-year-old man has been sacked from his job after being charged with supplying drugs to an indigenous community, police say.

Police found a cache of cannabis, cash and other items indicating drug supply after executing a search warrant of the man’s place of employment and residential address over the weekend.

He was arrested on site and charged with supplying less than a commercial quantity of a schedule two dangerous drug to an indigenous community.

He was also charged with possessing a trafficable amount of a schedule two dangerous drug and the proceeds of crime.

He was remanded in custody and will appear in the Katherine Local Court today.

Acting Senior Sergeant David Young said the arrest was a “great result” which would impact the flow of cannabis into the community.

“(It) will in turn have a positive effect in reducing property crime and social harm,” Act Snr Sgt Young said.

“Northern Territory Police will continue to target those who seek to profit from exploiting the vulnerable people in our community.”

Youth charged following “significant” damage to a Gillen home

A 15-year-old male has been arrested after allegedly committing “significant” property damage at a Gillen home and confronting the occupant with a large knife.

Police say around 6.30am on January 2, two youths aged 15 and 16 unlawfully entered and ransacked a home on Nicker Crescent.

The property’s occupant then returned home and found the two alleged offenders inside, police say.

The 15-year-old allegedly confronted the owner with a large knife before running away with a large amount of stolen property.

However, he was then arrested in a remote community south of Alice Springs by Strike Force Viper on Friday last week.

He has been charged with criminal damage, aggravated unlawful entry, stealing and aggravated assault and will face court at a later date.

A second youth remains at large.

NT Police two early morning assaults over cigarettes

Two people were allegedly assaulted over cigarettes in the Alice Springs CBD in separate incidents over the weekend within ten minutes of each other.

Police say a team of workers in a car park on Railway Terrace were approached by a group of youths asking for cigarettes just before 5.30am on Sunday.

Then, one of the youths allegedly physically assaulted one of the workers before stealing his cigarettes then running off towards a nearby service station.

Police also claim a man was walking on Bath St towards a fast food restaurant around 5.40am that morning when he was approached by a male youth who demanded money and cigarettes.

The man was then allegedly physically assaulted before the youth fled.

Strike Force Viper will investigate both incidents and are calling for witnesses and any motorists who might have dashcam footage.

Wet weather causes car to crash into Homemaker Village

WEEKEND wet weather created poor driving conditions with two crashes within one morning of downpour, keeping Top End ambos busy.

St John NT operations manager Craig Garraway said a crash where a car collided with the wall at the Homemaker Village on Bagot Rd on Saturday morning.

“It was pouring down,” Mr Garraway said.

“A young lady was involved in that crash and thankfully no serious injuries.”

Not long after the crash about 11am, a 30-year-old woman was hit by a car at the Jape Homemaker Village amid the torrential downpour.

“Number of injuries to that 30-year-old lady but thankfully not too serious and she’s recovering in the Hospital at the moment,” he said.

Mr Garraway said a person was hit by a car in their driveway in Rosebery over the weekend.

“Someone backed out the driveway I believe and collided with someone and I’m sure they’re trying to work out what happened there,” he said.

“Number of leg injuries there but they are fine and recovering quite well.”

Two Alice Springs businesses broken into overnight

TWO Alice Springs businesses had their front glass kicked and smashed within a space of an hour in the early morning on Monday.

Southern Watch Commander Rob Engels said Ngaanyatjarra Council was the first business to break into at 2am.

“It’s unknown what was stolen at this time,” Cmdr Engels said.

“Forensics will be attending the scene and we’ll await those results.”

He said the Centre for Remote Health was the second business to have the glass in the front door smashed in at 3am.

“It’s unknown what was taken at the time but obviously forensics will attend this morning,” Cmdr Engels said.

“If anyone has any information please give us a call 131 4444.”
