NT Police investigating alleged hit and run, leaving woman with life-threatening injuries

INITIAL WED: A WOMAN was allegedly left by the side of the road with life-threatening injuries following a reported hit and run in Darwin’s city heart.

Police reported the 51-year-old woman was lying on the road before she was allegedly struck and run over by a white sedan on Lindsay St at 8pm, Tuesday.

Witnesses called police after the driver allegedly fled from the scene.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said Major Crash detectives had closed the road to establish a crime scene.

“A team of detectives are currently investigating the incident, including reviewing the network of CCTV cameras throughout the CBD,” Sgt Lindner said.

He appealed for the drive to “do the right thing now” and turn themselves in.

“It is only a matter of time before we identify your vehicle,” he warned.

Police said the woman was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A Royal Darwin Hospital spokesman said the 51-year-old female remained in a critical condition on Wednesday.

Police have called for any witnesses, or others with information about the driver, to contact 131 444 and quote PROMIS 9926 699.
