Michael Gunner fast-tracks contracts to respond to coronavirus concerns

THE Chief Minister has taken executive action to ensure there is no delay in securing goods and services that may be needed to respond to the coronavirus

THE Chief Minister has taken executive action to ensure there is no delay in securing goods and services that may be needed to respond to the coronavirus.

Michael Gunner today has signed an legislative order that removes several procurement requirements for government contracts – such as formal quotation and tender processes.

It will ensure that any work or medical supplies that are required to respond to COVID-19 in the NT will be secured as quickly as possible, without delay.

“We are working around the clock to protect Territorians from the economic and health impacts of this crisis,” he said.

“We are leaving no stone unturned and acting swiftly — I’m not going to stuff around.

“I’ll take the action that’s needed to keep the Territory safe.

“The executive action I’m taking means there’ll be no delay in getting the goods and services Territorians may need to respond to the coronavirus.

”We’ll still be using local businesses and local workers, but we’ll be doing it much faster.”

Mr Gunner was at COAG in Syndey on Friday and signed a national health agreement with the Prime Minister and other first Ministers.

The agreement gives the NT an immediate injection of nearly $1 million as an upfront advance payment to help respond to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Chief Minister has also gotten the Prime Minister’s to share the costs of coronavirus diagnosis, treatment and outbreak management.

This includes hospital services, clinics and testing.
