HEALTH authorities are preparing to use the Howard Springs quarantine facility again to accommodate Territorians who may test positive to coronavirus if it spreads further.
Deputy Chief Health Officer Dianne Stephens gave an update on the NT’s COVID-19 response at midday.
“There is no doubt that this virus knows no bounds or no borders and that at some stage we will have another case and that may happen today, tomorrow or over the weekend which is why we need to be prepared,” she said.

NT communities want action to prevent coronavirus spread
Dr Stephens said health authorities were looking at ways the Howard Springs quarantine facility can be further used to accommodate more people in the NT who may test positive in the future.
“We’ve had discussions with the Howard Springs community this morning, in particular with the Good Shepherd school,” she said.
“We have a quarantine facility out there that has worked extremely well and has systems in place that allow us to stand it up and use it for the Northern Territory.
“We are looking at ways we can use that site in order to accommodate people who need to be in quarantine because they’ve been in close contact and don’t have a home where they can home isolate and also for people once we reach a certain threshold where they will not need to go to hospital.
“So ... people who have the disease but are not sick enough to go to hospital, there will be a place for them in Howard Springs.”
