A man is in hospital after a car and a truck collided on a major road east of Darwin.
Motorists were being warned to expect major delays following the crash, which occurred on the corner of McKinnon Rd and the Stuart Hwy in Pinelands about 11.17am Monday.
Police on the scene said the driver of the ute had suffered a broken arm and “at least one of his legs was broken” and the man had been taken to hospital for treatment.
An NT Health spokesman said the 57-year-old man was in a stable condition.
Police said the truck driver was unharmed.
The scene was cleared about 3.30pm Monday after motorists were urged to avoid the inbound lanes of the highway while emergency services attended.
They said Tiger Brennan Dr was the “preferred route at this time”.
A power pole was badly damaged after being hit by the truck and Power and Water staff were in attendance.
A Power and Water spokesman said some Pinelands businesses would lose power for a “short time” when the truck was removed from its position against the pole.
He said power would be switched back on straight away “as long as the pole doesn’t fall over”.
Workers are continuing to clear debris from the road and traffic diversions remain in place at the intersection.
