Business owners have been urged to keep their eyes out after a fresh wave of counterfeit bills were used at a Darwin shop.
The local business handed in fake $50 notes to police earlier this week after finding out they were not legal tender.
The note has a paper texture and the security window has visible defects, having been glued on.
Police have urged everyone to keep an eye out for the possibility fake notes being distributed.
Police ask anyone who has received counterfeit money to make contact, while anyone with information is urged to contact police on 131 444.
Driver flees scene of early morning Palmerston crash
A driver fled the scene leaving behind two passengers after crashing their car causing traffic delays out of Palmerston Friday morning.
Emergency services responded to reports of the single-vehicle crash on Kirkland Rd between Wishart and Durack at 7.20am, Friday.
The driver of the vehicle had fled the scene by the time police had arrived.
The two passengers are assisting police with inquiries.
The incident is no longer affecting traffic in the area.
Stolen car driven dangerously for multiple hours in Katherine
NT Police are appealing to the public for information after a stolen car was driven “dangerously” and “erratically” through Katherine overnight putting other road users in danger.
Northern Watch Commander Richard Howie said police received reports of an unlawful entry and a stolen motor vehicle from the Katherine education precinct about 11.45pm on Thursday.
He said police received numerous reports from the public about the stolen vehicle being driven erratically within the town, placing others at risk.
“Police were monitoring and attempted to apprehend the vehicle but they were driven at in a dangerous manner on a couple of occasions causing them to take evasive action,” he said.
Senior Sergeant Howie said police were unsure of the number of people in the vehicle, with people getting in and out of the car during the period it was driven around the town.
“We were quite cautious in regards to chasing it or anything because we didn’t know how old they were and what was going on and who they were and what kind of influence they were under so we sort of took the cautious approach,” he said.
He said the vehicle stopped after hitting a gutter, which caused the tyres to deflate about 1.45am on Friday, with the occupants of the vehicle then fleeing into nearby bushland.
“The offenders remain outstanding at this point in time,” he said.
“Obviously we’re quite concerned about this type of behaviour which really places all road users at risk and we’re just hoping that anyone that has information in regard to the offending can contact us.”
NT Police arrest youths who spat on security at Palmerston shopping centre
A pair of youths have been arrested after they allegedly spat on and assaulted a group of security officers in Palmerston.
The youths, aged 13 and 16, were allegedly causing disturbances at a shopping centre on Temple Tce.
Security guards intervened with both youths allegedly spitting on the officers while one was assaulted during the altercation.
One of the youths also allegedly spat at police upon arrival before both were arrested and taken to the Palmerston Police Station.
Detectives from Strike Force Tridents have charged the 13-year-old with disorderly behaviour, two counts of aggravated assault, assault police and serious breach of bail.
The 16-year-old was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, disorderly behaviour and threats to kill.
Both were remanded in custody to appear in court on Thursday.
Police have urged witnesses to contact them on 131 444 and quote reference 10396713.
Darwin prison escapee located a week after escape
A man who escaped from a prison work release program in Darwin almost a week ago has been located and arrested by police.
NT Police said Fitz Green was arrested on Thursday morning without incident.
Police said Green had been at an unsupervised work release program in Marrara on Friday when he failed to present after his shift, with police waiting until Monday to call for the public’s help in locating the 34-year-old.
Detectives from Serious Crime, Strike Force Trident and the Dog Operations Unit were involved in the operation.
Police thanked the members of the public for their help during the search.
Kids allegedly threaten man with machete, steal his car at servo
Five kids stole a car from a man at an Eaton service station after they assaulted and threatened him with a machete, police allege.
NT Police said the alleged aggravated robbery at Ampol Foodary was reported at 4am Tuesday.
They said one of the children was allegedly carrying the machete and the victim suffered minor injuries.
Police said two of the kids – aged 13 and 14 – were charged with aggravated robbery, use of a motor vehicle without consent, and theft.
The pair has been bailed to appear in court on July 24.
Police said they were working to identify the other three children and urged witnesses to the incident or other suspicious behaviour in the area to contact police on 131 444.
Second earthquake in two weeks shakes the Territory
A second earthquake in as many weeks has shaken the Territory.
The magnitude 2.4 tremor was felt in Tanami at 8.05pm Monday.
Stations in Alice Springs, Buchannan Downs, Fitzroy Crossing and Western Australia recorded the quake’s shockwaves.
The earthquake had a depth of 10km.
Man charged after allegedly clocking up 177km/h in stolen car
Police have arrested a man after they spotted him allegedly driving a stolen car at more than 70km/h over the limit.
NT Police Northern Watch Commander Dale Motter said the vehicle was reported stolen from a Rosebery home about 8am Sunday.
Sergeant Motter said the owners – who discovered the car was missing when they woke up – also reported a purse and set of keys missing.
He said police “pinged” the car allegedly going 177km per hour along Tiger Brennan Dr at 10am.
“They pulled in behind it and surprisingly it actually pulled over,” Sergeant Motter said.
“They arrested at 37-year-old male from it.”
Sergeant Motter said the man had been charged with driving at a dangerous speed, unlicensed driving and using a motor vehicle without consent.
He said the man was bailed to appear in the Darwin Local Court on July 26.
