THE senseless destruction of granite table tops, smashing of glass windows and roller doors has cost the owner of Alfonsino’s an estimated $12,000.
Alfonsino’s owner Benjamin Matthews caught the destruction in the early hours of Saturday morning on his CCTV cameras and posted stills to the Italian restaurant’s Facebook page seeking the names of those involved. In return for the names he offered a $1000 reward and within the hour he had the names of the young men who were identified on the CCTV footage.
One of those involved is understood to play for St Mary’s Football Club.

Mr Matthews said family who recognised the people involved marched their children to the police station and contacted him asking them what they wanted done.
Mr Matthews said he just wants to ensure the cost of repairs are paid. He estimates the seven ruined granite tables tops and handmade frames would cost about $9000 to replace.
He said the other remaining table tops would also have the be replaced as the quarry he sourced the granite from was no longer operating and so wouldn’t match.
“I just disappointed with people who have a lack of respect for anybody else but themselves. That’s my biggest issue, nobody really gets held accountable anymore which is a shame,” he said.
He said he met with two young men involved and their parents on the weekend, and they agreed to pay back the damages.
The family has been contacted for comment.
St Mary’s President Adrian Moscheni said members in the club were aware something had happened.

“Some of our people are aware that something might have happened, but we’re going to leave it alone for now with everything alleged,” he said.
“Pictures don’t always tell the story, but I haven’t seen it so I can’t say too much.
“The problem is until we know, we can’t act, but if there is something we’ll be looking into it ourselves.”
Mr Matthews said he was yet to contact police as he had been too busy sorting out damages to get the restaurant operational.
