ENTERTAINMENT scheduled for the Territory Day celebrations in Katherine has been cancelled due to ‘big smoke’ near the Showgrounds from a fire burning nearby.
Katherine MLA Sandra Nelson revealed the cancellation in a video released on her Facebook page.
The cancellation will undoubtedly be a cause for disappointment among Katherine locals.

According to a media release from the NT Police, the fire started at Bicentennial Rd had has “spread to the back area of the Showgrounds.”

Emergency services are reportedly “working hard to put the fire out as soon as possible.”
Entertainment included prominent Australian electronic duo Electric Fields, as well as Serina Pech, Birdz and Cockatoo Dancers.
The fireworks display is set to still go ahead and has been relocated to the Katherine Cricket Oval.
