Thousands made their way to the Darwin Turf Club for the Palmerston Sprint, kicking off the biggest weekend in Territory racing.
The Darwin Cup is just around the corner, on Monday, but Saturday was for the sprinters and plenty of racing fans made their voices heard early ahead of the big day.
Among them were plenty of local racing fans, and those who had travelled from interstate specifically for the occasion.
Jenny Murphy was in Darwin for the first time after hearing so much about it, and for the weekend of racing made her trip up from Sydney.
“It’s my first time here, I’ve heard a lot about it and I’m very excited for this weekend,” she said.
“We’re here with some friends who are originally from Darwin, and it’s very exciting to now be here to experience it for ourselves.
“The Top End is just beautiful, we went to the markets this morning and saw the sunset as well, and it’s just a stunning place.”
She wasn’t the only Sydneysider enjoying the atmosphere the Cup Carnival has to offer, with Dean Halliday and Summa Halliday also making their way north for the occasion.
“It’s beautiful up here, the weather is great, and we just love it,” Mr Halliday said.
“It’s our first time coming to the Cup, we got here just for this weekend and the atmosphere is great.”
