WE’VE REOPENED FOR BUSINESS: Full details of all the restrictions still in place

What’s the go with drinking? Can you have a cheeky pash on the dancefloor? Will there even be a dancefloor? WE ANSWER YOUR RESTRICTION QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know about face masks

WONDERING what you can and can’t do now that the Territory’s lockdowns have been lifted? We answer all your questions.

When did the lockdown lift?

1pm on Friday July 2.

But that was just Darwin right?

Nope! Alice Springs managed to escape their lockdown a day early too.

So I can just do everything freely?

Not quite. You still have to wear a mask where you can’t stay 1.5m away from other people and you must check in everywhere you go, no matter how long you spend at that location.

Can I have people at my house?

Yep. Up to 10 people can come to your house, not including residents who live there. But try to be sensible.

Can I travel? Can I fly anywhere?

Travel is allowed across the Territory but lockdowns and hot spots remain in other states so make sure you keep up to date with those rules.

But I can go and get a beer?

Absolutely. In fact, supporting local businesses is encouraged. But you do need to check in and you must be seated when drinking or eating. There will be no vertical consumption. You also have to wear a mask until you eat or drink and if you’re headed to the bar.

Wait, what is vertical consumption?

Politician speak for eating or drinking while standing up.

So can I go dancing?

If it’s open, you can boogie to your heart’s content. You just have to wear a mask and stay 1.5m away from other people. Meaning your dancing can get VERY energetic.

Hang on. If I have to wear a mask, how can I have a cheeky pash with a stranger?

Social distancing rules are still in place, meaning a minimum space of 1.5m must be between you and other people that aren’t from your household. And you have to wear a mask. Maybe hold off on the snogging for another week.

Can I get my nails done? How about my hair?

Provided you can wear a face mask and check in, you can head to the hairdresser, get your eyebrows shaped or get some new colours on your nails.

I’m getting married, how am I affected?

Firstly, congratulations! Your wedding can absolutely go ahead but if it’s at your home, you can only have 10 people not including the people you live with attend. Best to head outside or to a venue. You’ll also need to social distance, wear masks and have all your guests check in.

What about the Darwin Cup Carnival? It’s Guineas Day and I need to get on the punt.

It’s going ahead so enjoy the races.

I’m an exercise fanatic. How does this affect me?

Ahhh you must have been one of those people constantly using the outdoor gym equipment this past week. Good on you. You can exercise outside unrestricted but must maintain physical distancing.

Wait, you say outside. What about at the gym?

Sorry, gyms aren’t open for another week. The Chief Minister says they’re one of the riskiest sites for Covid-19 spread so any indoor exercise is banned until 1pm July 9, including gyms, Zumba, barre, pilates and yoga studios.

What about footy? Cricket? Volleyball?

This is a little confusing and you’re best to check in with your code to be sure. Contact sports like footy are banned for another week but sports where you can stay 1.5m apart like golf, tennis or cricket have got the go ahead to play.

Can I go to church or my place worship?

Yes. Places of worship are back open again but you must check in and wear a mask. Unlike in other states, you’re also allowed to sing to your heart’s content ... preferably when the minister asks you to.

I know it’s school holidays but I need a break from my kids. Where can they go?

Schools, vacation care and childcare centres are back open again to all kids.

When will these rules end?

It’s likely to be at 1pm next Friday, July 9, once a full replication cycle has been completed.
