UAE praised for ‘allowing people to live their lives’ in COVID-19 pandemic

A MINE worker, who tested positive for Covid-19, defied authorities and breached his stay-at-home order, prompting a new public exposure site to be declared.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner said the man in his 50s, who also visited the Buff Club, attended the Stuart Park Corner Store in Stuart Park on Sunday, June 27 between 12.18pm and 12.35pm.

Mr Gunner accused the man of not disclosing his movements to authorities. The man was under a stay-at-home order, and was scheduled to be transported to the Centre for National Resilience later that day.

The store is a casual contact site, with anyone who visited the venue between these times required to self-isolate and contact authorities immediately.

These people will be tested for Covid-19 and must stay at home until a negative test is returned.

A livid Mr Gunner said the new site might affect the Top End’s lockdown release plans.

“Don’t lie to authorities. Coronavirus is absolute honestly. Just tell us your movements, we can trace your movements, we can keep the community safe,” he said.

“Just be absolutely upfront with us.

“We want to be short, we want to be sharp, we want to be swift. That’s how you keep Territorians safe. The best way to do that is with absolute honest, and those people who are involved in this situation, we didn’t get honesty this week.”
