Panel contracts have been awarded to Darwin-based Northern Transportables, Demountable Sales and Hire and Rusca Developments along with Alice Springs-based Murray River North. Remote Housing and Town Camps Minister Chansey Paech said the contracts would increase housing development across the Territory.
“This investment is about providing critical infrastructure to remote areas where there is an immediate need for better, safer housing,” he said. “Our government has already invested $68 million towards modular homes which have begun rolling out to 24 communities. Since coming to government in 2016, we have built and upgraded around 2200 homes in remote areas and invested a further $426 million towards land servicing.
“We acknowledge there’s more to be done to improve housing in our remote areas, however we are not quite four years into our ten-year plan and already we have done more than any other Territory government.”

The works are part of the NT HomeBuild program which is funded through its ten-year $1.1 billion remote housing investment package, topped up by a $550 million from the federal government.
The houses are modular designs, constructed off-site to be transported to remote communities. The companies will design, construct and install the homes on-site. Contractors have committed to a 42 per cent Aboriginal employment target.
