A RESORT in Darwin has closed down and is no longer taking bookings.
The doors of the Leprechaun Resort on the Stuart Highway at Winnellie are closed for business.
There is a message on their website which states: “Please note: the resort is not currently taking reservations.”
The owners could not be contacted for comment.
In 2013, the NT News reported the hotel had been given a new lease of life by an Umbakumba-based Aboriginal organisation.
The corporation from Groote Eylandt took out a 40-year-lease on the 21,370sqm site.
“The Aminjarrinja Enterprises Aboriginal Corporation is embarking on a $3 million development of the site,” it was reported.
The original Leprechaun Motel was built in 1969.
During Cyclone Tracy in 1974, The Leprechaun survived with just minor damage with the exception of the loss of its roof, which locals described as having been “ripped off like a tin can”.
