Arnhem Highway fatal: Tributes flow for 58-year-old woman killed in horror three-vehicle crash in Humpty Doo

A PAIL of flowers left at the side of the Arnhem Highway marks the spot where a 58-year-old woman tragically lost her life during a horrific crash on Saturday.
The woman had been driving a Ford Focus sedan, travelling outbound on the Arnhem Highway, when she was preparing to turn right into a driveway near the Freds Pass Rd, at Humpty Doo at about 1.30pm.
Detectives from the Major Crash Unit said before she was able to turn, a Toyota HiLux utility collided with her vehicle from behind.
As a result of the collision, the 58-year-old’s Ford Focus sedan entered the oncoming lane where the vehicle was struck by a Holden Commodore sedan.
The cars involved sustained significant damage with broken glass and debris strewn across the highway.
Nearby witnesses at the scene of the crash came to the aid and started CPR on the 58-year-old woman driving the Ford Focus sedan.
However, she was later declared deceased at the crash scene by paramedics.
The woman’s grieving loved ones attended the crash scene on Sunday and left floral tributes by the roadside where she had spent her final moments.
The 49-year-old woman driving the utility was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital suffering minor injuries.
The driver of the Holden Commodore, an 18-year-old man, was treated at the scene by paramedics with no serious injuries.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Corey Borton said a crime scene was declared on Saturday, and parts of the highway were closed for several hours while Major Crash detectives piece together the chain of events that led to the fatal smash.
“Police would like to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has dashcam footage,” he said.
“Please contact police on 131 444 and quote reference number 9697952.”
The number of lives lost on Northern Territory roads now sits at 11, three more than at the same time last year.
This latest incident comes less than a week after a 36-year-old woman died in a high-speed crash at Alawa last Sunday.
