Croc attacks Goat Island owner Kai

A man toyed with death on Friday night after he made a narrow escape from becoming a curious croc’s dinner on Top End shores.

Police received calls for urgent assistance from the Nightcliff Jetty about 7.30pm, that a man was stuck on a rock bar and in serious danger with a croc stalking him.

Northern Watch Commander Mick Fields said the man had walked out to a rock bar on low tide in anticipation that he could wade back into shore after the tide began to rise.

“This escape plan was prevented by a rather large inquisitive adult crocodile who was stalking him,” Commander Fields said.

“Water Police members were called out and able to rescue the distressed male from becoming dinner.”

Low tide on Friday September 1, was 0.59m at 2.46pm and high tide was 6.8m at 9pm.

Commander Fields said he would like to remind all members of the public to be aware of the dangers that live in our waterways.

“Fortunately on this occasion due to the swift response of Police members a potentially serious situation was narrowly avoided,” he said.
