2009/10: Baxter the dog lucky to survive after eating owner’s lacy black G-string

ANIMALS made the headlines in 2009, with the NT News raising a few eyebrows with its Our Dog Ate My G-string front page.

Baxter, a cavalier King Charles spaniel, nearly paid for his underwear fetish with his life, but luckily vets managed to remove the indigestible lacy, black G-string after it wrapped around his intestines.

The next animal to make the headlines was a pygmy hippopotamus shot dead by mistake during a pig-hunting expedition on a station in the Douglas Daly district, 200km south of Darwin.

The topless sunbather burst into action to save the Alatai Apartments in Darwin from going up in flames, hosing down a palm tree that was on fire for several minutes before remembering she was topless.

Meanwhile, in Tennant Creek a kangaroo in the mood for love made female joggers hopping mad after stalking them on a bike path.

Police said they would not pursue the salacious mammal, despite concerns over the randy roo roaming the Honeymoon Ranges.

This was the third wettest year on record for the Territory with 75 days of rain at Alice Springs Airport and 151 rain days at Darwin Airport.
