THE infamous cane toad finally made it to Darwin in 2005, after first crossing the Territory/Queensland border around 1982.

Enterprising Territorians have used the unsightly amphibians in a variety of ways since – mainly as golf balls and souvenir coin purses.

This year Katherine Gorge became a film set when a cast of actors descended upon the area to film horror movie Rogue.

Filming also took place at a range of other NT locations, including the wetlands of Red Lily and Yellow Water Billabongs in Kakadu National Park.

Inspired by well-known NT croc Sweetheart, famous in the 1970s for stalking boats, the film follows the unfortunate predicament a group of tourists find themselves in when they fall prey to an enormous, man-eating saltie.

Innocently trimming a tree at Corroboree Park Tavern, Fred Buckland lost his chainsaw during the encounter.

Staff eventually retrieved it, but after being used as a croc’s chew toy it was no longer much use.
