Dating demands: Are we becoming too picky?

THE COVID-19 pandemic has now given way to another disease on the Gold Coast – the love bug.

Local matchmaker Tracey Korman who has been playing cupid for 25 years said never before had she seen so many people been on the prowl for love.

Her business Two’s Company which has helped create 210 weddings and thousands of relationships since 1995 has had a major upswing in business since the COVID lockdown, with a particular jump in the 30-something demographic.

“Covid has led to more people pursuing their love dreams,” Ms Korman said.

“It’s not about having a big house, business and paying bills. People are realising the importance of having a loving relationship. They want to have a beautiful love journey as part of their future.”

“I think people have realised what is important. Finding a partner used to be a, ‘I’ll do it one day’ thing, now people want it right now.”

“There is certainly a love boom. Particularly for those between 30 and 40.”

“But we have worked with everyone between 18-90.”

The counsellor, who has seen the ins and outs of hundreds of relationships said despite it all she still believed in true romance.

“Love at first sight is certainly a thing, but I think people are so focused on finding the one, they forget they need to keep making the relationship work after the marriage or after they get together.

“That is what we are never taught, what happens in the happily ever after. So I work closely with my clients to ensure they are ready to do that.”

Ms Korman said those looking for love on the Gold Coast were in luck.

“There are people from all walks of life on the Gold Coast. We work with lawyers, tradies, single parents, doctors, teachers and everyone in between.”

Gold Coast matchmaker’s top five tips to find love:

1 Self love/self care- To find love, people must be right within themselves and be in a happy place. Learn to love yourself first.

2 Learn about relationships and what makes them work

3 Follow those learnings eg. Don’t lose yourself/ over-invest yourself in a new-found love and focus on your own happiness/ life and what you enjoy doing

4 Be completely honest with yourself and others

5 Always respect yourself and others in your communication with them.
